Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 packet 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 lb Italian sausage crumbled
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for topping

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, sugar, and salt. In a separate bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes. Add the melted butter to the yeast mixture, then combine with the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth. Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook crumbled sausage until browned. Drain excess fat and set aside.
  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out the dough and press it into a greased deep-dish pizza pan, covering the sides. Layer the mozzarella cheese, cooked sausage, and crushed tomatoes mixed with oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Top with grated Parmesan cheese.
  • Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
  • Allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve hot and enjoy!
