Ingredients
Here’s a list of the ingredients you’ll need to make my easy Fried Red Snapper recipe:
- Red Snapper Fillets: You need about 6-7 fillets of Red snapper for this recipe. When buying fish, check its eyes. The eyes should be clear and transparent. If they are cloudy, the fish is not fresh. Wash the fish thoroughly, and let it dry.
- Spices and Aromatics: The spices I use for marinating the fish are basic, and you should have them in your pantry. Lemon juice is also added to give a tangy flavor.
- Flour and Gram flour: The fish is coated with a mixture of flour and gram flour, or baisan to give it a crispy exterior.
- Oil: To fry the fish, use a neutral oil like canola or sunflower.

Equipment
Here’s the equipment I used to prepare these delicious crispy fried Red Snapper fillets:
- 1 Medium-sized bowl
- 1 Large bowl
- Measuring spoons
- 1 Large frying pan or wok
Storage
Any fried fish recipe needs to be eaten while its hot. Otherwise, the coating will become soggy, and you won’t have a crispy exterior.
However, you could marinate the fish a day or two before frying. Marinate and place the fish in an air-tight container. You can store it in the fridge for up to 2 days before frying and serving.
Top Tip
- Make sure you buy fresh fish. When buying fish, the eyes should be clear and shiny. The body of the fish should feel firm to the touch.
- After you wash the fish, pat it dry with a kitchen towel and let it air dry properly before marinating.
- You can adjust the spices according to your taste.
- Fry the fish on a medium-high heat to avoid burning or undercooking.
Serving Suggestion
This fish should be served as soon as it’s fried. Add a side of a fresh green salad, such as my Summer Mix salad. You can also serve it with your favorite dip or chutney. I suggest a tangy tamarind chutney or refreshing mint and cucumber raita.
