About Club Sandwich
The club sandwich is one of those age-old recipes that stands out as a star. For as long as one can remember, it has been on almost every diner, cafe, and restaurant menu. This Chicken Club Sandwich recipe has stood the test of time and is clearly not going anywhere!
It was believed to be introduced at the Union Club of New York City in 1889. But it appeared on local US restaurant menus in 1899. Historically, the earlier recipes made the sandwich using chicken slices. But gradually, turkey sandwiches also became famous.
The Best Sandwich?
You get a platter loaded with a sandwich cut into quarters when you order a club sandwich. Each quarter has 3 slices of bread with the various fillings all held together with a toothpick. It is usually served with a side of salad and fries. The iconic club sandwich always has 3 layers. Here’s why:
- For a better structure and more support, helping to make the sandwich stable.
- Because there are a lot of ingredients in the sandwich, extra layers are necessary.
- For a more presentable sandwich.
Today, the club sandwich has become so famous that the recipe has reached all corners of the world. Every country has its own variations of ingredients and layers. It is a universal hit!

Ingredients

- Chicken: 200 grams, boneless, breast or thigh, cut into cubes
- Black pepper: 1 teaspoon, freshly ground.
- Red Chili flakes: 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste). These help to add a fiery kick to the chicken.
- Salt: 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
- Oil: for cooking the chicken & eggs. You can also use butter if you like.
- Eggs: 2 large
- Bread: 8 slices of your favorite type. However, we recommend using white bread for this recipe because it gives the best taste.
- Mayonnaise: 6 tablespoons. This might seem a lot, but the sauce made using the mayonnaise brings out the flavor of the chicken.
- Ketchup: 2 tablespoons.
- Chili Garlic sauce: 2 tablespoons
- Mustard paste: 2 teaspoons. The mustard paste helps to add a unique tangy flavor to the sauce.
- Fresh lettuce leaves: For that matchless crunch when you bite into the sandwich.

- Sliced tomatoes: Add a juicy texture to the sandwich. Use the ripest one you can find.
- Slices of cheese (e.g., cheddar or Swiss): You can use any cheese you like.

Part 2: Frying Eggs and Toasting Bread

- Once the sandwiches are beautifully toasted, remove them from the pan.
- Cut the sandwiches into triangles or quarters for serving.

How to Serve
How can you take your sandwich from a great sandwich to a super awesome one? Here’s how you can take it up another notch by serving these sides with it:
Fries: Does this one even need an explanation? What goes great with a delicious sandwich? Crispy, crinkly, golden brown French fries! You can use fries of your choice, crinkle cut, shoestring, curly or waffle cut. They will all pair well with the sandwich.
Wedges: These chunky cut and seasoned, crispy potatoes will definitely be a game-changer.
Coleslaw: Coleslaw is always served alongside Chicken Club Sandwichs in restaurants and cafes. You can make this easy and refreshing salad at home and get the same taste at home.
Grilled Vegetables: If you want to add another taste dimension to your sandwich and make it a hefty meal, try grilling your favorite vegetables and serving with it. You can add some seasoning to your vegetables and allow their natural flavor to come out. These crispy, warm vegetables will pair very well with your sandwich.
Variations
The ease of this recipe is that you can customize it as you please. You can use the ingredients of your choice. Here are a few ideas of variations you can make in this Chicken Club Sandwich recipe:
Different meats: You can try various meat cuts and deli meats for the sandwich. Turkey is a popular alternative to chicken. You can also try different flavors of chicken, like roasted, grilled, etc.
Herbed-Mayo: You can change the sauce by adding mixed herbs to the mayonnaise. You could also use a herbed butter to toast your bread.
Different Vegetables: You can use vegetables of your choice in the sandwich. Use onions with the tomatoes, or add some corn to the sauce.
Scrambled Eggs: In China, sandwiches are served with scrambled eggs instead of omelets. You can give that a try and see if you like it.

Pro Tips
Here are some tips to help you make the greatest sandwich ever!
- Use the Best Ingredients: It is a given whenever you are cooking, use the best quality ingredients available. In this case, cook the chicken thoroughly and use fresh bread and fresh vegetables. Seasoning is also very important. Season everything well to enhance the taste of the sandwich.
- Use of Sauce: You don’t want to end up with a dry sandwich. So, use sauce on all slices of bread.
- Add a little Sugar: This sandwich is a savory treat. If you add a little honey or sugar to the sauce, it will balance out the savory extremely well.
- Toast the Bread: Using oil or butter, toast the bread evenly. This may take a few minutes, so be patient. It will make a huge difference in the crispness of the sandwich.
- Add Something Sour: Sometimes, adding something acidic or slightly sour can help make the sandwich tastier. You can use pickles or even some vinegar in the sauce. The acidity will make a huge difference.

FAQs
No. Unfortunately, this sandwich is best served immediately while it’s still warm. Sandwiches that can be made ahead of time are usually cold sandwiches.
You can use whatever bread is readily available. White, brown, multi-grains, rye, etc. You could even use croissants, for a richer flavor.
The best way to cut a sandwich is using a serrated knife. Diagonal cuts are preferred, and a toothpick is used to keep it in place.
When spreading the mayonnaise on the bread slices, ensure you cover the whole slice of bread. Spread a thick layer of mayonnaise on each slice. The mayonnaise acts as a glue and keeps all the fillings in place.
